Chitty Falls

Contributed by ranchez

This less-traveled hike offers much beauty and seclusion as it drops over 2,000 feet into Bear Canyon to Chitty Falls. Dropping off the Mogollon Rim, the trail offers expansive views of southeastern Arizona.

Areas of the trail are exposed so wear sunscreen any time of year.  The best times to hike are spring and fall.  Winter can be snowpacked and bitterly cold and summer can be toasty - it's Arizona after all.

Because of the seclusion and this trail not being widely known,  you have a solid chance of being alone on this hike.

Directions:

Travel south of Alpine on Highway 191. Several miles south of Hannagan Meadow, look for FR 54 on your right. Turn right on FR 54 and travel several miles to the trailhead.

From Clifton Morenci, travel north on highway 191. As you top out on the Mogollon Rim, look for FR 54 on the left.
